BREAKING: Hundreds of African residents evicted from Chinese Hotels

Even though the whole world is aware that, COVID-19 originated from China, most African countries are very welcoming and deals with Chinese just like other Africans.

They live and do business here, without any interference. Whilst some of them do legal businesses, others too engage in illegal mining, the smuggling of rosewood and Ivory among others but we still manage to coexist without any problem.

When coronavirus started, Chinese still live their normal lives in Africa. Those in residential areas are still there, others residing in hotels and apartments are still there.

However, a report by BBC indicated that, Hundreds of African residents and businessmen in China’s southern city of Guangzhou have been evicted from hotels and apartments and put into forced quarantine without knowing the results of their tests.

Speaking to the BBC, Tobenna Victor, a Nigerian student in Guangzhou said that, “They are accusing us of having the virus… We paid rent to them and after collecting rent they chased us out of the house. Since last night we have been sleeping outside.”

Businessman Lunde Okulunge Isidore, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, also said that: “They came to my house. They told me to wait after 24 hours for the result, [but] after 24 hours nobody contacted me.”

These treatments are discriminatory and if not properly managed could set bad precedence. The Chinese government must act as quickly as possible. Africa has been a business partner and the last thing to do is to Mar this relationship we have.
