Coronavirus: There're no new confirmed cases of disease in Nigeria - NCDC

- There are a lot of fake news about coronavirus in Nigeria

- However, the NCDC has said that there is no confirmed case of the disease in the country

- The commission said that it will inform Nigerians if any official case comes up

A lot of fake reports have sprung up around confirmed cases of foreigners who were recently quarantined over the fear of the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria.

Following this, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that there is no confirmed case of the disease in the country as rumored by some media outfits.

The NCDC said that it has detailed reports on only suspected cases, contacts and responses.

However, the commission said that it will not hesitate to announce to Nigerians if there is any confirmed case in the country.

Ihekweazu said that what members of the House should do was to assist the efforts of the federal government by coming up with a sustainable budget in the fight against the spread of the virus in Nigeria. He called on lawmakers to encourage Nigerians by expressing confidence in the government who had set up measures against the disease.

The NCDC boss said: “I understand they are expressing the anxieties of Nigerians, but they should please support the works we are doing both in the short and long-term.” Ihekweazu said that if other citizens of the country are to toe the line of lawmakers, then businesses, schools, and offices should be shut down.

Making a clarification, the spokesman of the House, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, in a statement made available to Legit.ng, said that during its plenary on Tuesday, March 3, the legislature only called on the federal government to come up with urgent measures to tackle the spread of the disease. Kalu said that lawmakers also urged the National Assembly to set up an ad-hoc committee to work with health and media agencies that would sensitize Nigerians more on the nature of the virus and how to fight it both at a national and personal level.
