The 2014 FIFA World Cup has completely blown the theory that abstinence leads to better performance out of the water. Four teams in the World Cup have been reported as banning their players from having sex during the tournament, and all four of them have now been eliminated. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chile, Mexico and Russia have all been sent packing from Brazil, despite banning their players from engaging in sexual activity.
Seven of the nine countries reported as allowing their players to have sex have also been eliminated however. Australia, Spain, England, Italy, Switzerland, Uruguay and the United States have all returned home.
Only Netherlands and Germany are still in play from that grouping.
